Inside the house, tall ceilings, textured white walls, industrial concrete furniture and floors, and preserved original stone features combine to create a calm and inviting feel, with natural wooden furniture added to bring warmth to the space.

The upper floor of the home plays host to an expansive welcome area, a master bedroom, and a bathroom. Large handle-free doors on pivot hinges throughout the house create a sense of openness, while a floor-to-ceiling sliding pocket door tucks away to seamlessly join the bedroom and the adjoining space.

The stairs, centered in the home, are the focal point of this project. Acting as both a sculpture and a functional piece of furniture, it has an empowering presence. Constructed with nothing more than seventeen pieces of native solid wood and a metal spine, it is an impressive feat of engineering.

Downstairs, an open-plan living, kitchen, and dining area dominate the space, with custom-built furniture and a solid concrete kitchen. Great care has been taken to preserve the original old stone walls and arch that have remained in place for over 100 years.

Repurposing materials found in the original home is an integral part of this project. We cut and treated many old beams and wood, transforming them into shelves, tables, and cabinet doors while an olive oil mill stone was used as a coffee table, a single large piece of stone from the original house as a side table, and another piece of stone cut to size and positioned on the exterior as signage.
